On the Development team, we enjoy creating solutions that benefit others. That’s why, when we heard the Waltham Boys & Girls club needed help feeding their 600 kids, we immediately asked, “What can we do to help?” After meeting with them, we jumped at the chance to assist with its Summer to Lunch Program. The program aims to create a garden where the kids grow their own food and learn how to make healthy food choices.
So we pushed aside the keyboards and picked up the power tools to build two raised-bed planters. The 8’ x 3’ planters took nearly four hours to make and weighed close to 200 pounds once completed! Then we loaded up the pick-up trucks and brought them to the Boys and Girls Club. Once there, we unloaded the planters, laid five yards of loam, and planted the gardens. In the end the Boys & Girls Club got a beautiful, weed-free garden, which will hopefully bring its kids fun, smiles, and a full stomach.
