Our father Jimmy passed away in August 2009 after a tough battle with esophageal cancer. Since one of his great passions was golf, we decided to keep his spirit alive by hosting a tournament in his honor and donating a portion of the proceeds to the American Cancer Association, specifically for esophageal cancer research. We have been running the tournament for three years now, and through donations and the tournament itself, have raised roughly $10,000 for this cause.
This year, we were fortunate enough to have six foursomes that included Commonwealth employees. It was pretty special to have our coworkers help us support this great cause in our father’s memory. Not only have our coworkers been amazing, but Commonwealth Cares has been a supporter of this cause each year as well. We can’t tell you how much it means to our family to have the support of such a remarkable organization.
Our father loved that we all worked together—and for such a great company. He would have been proud to know that Commonwealth created such an incredibly generous organization in Commonwealth Cares.
Karen Donahue, her brother Brian, and sister-in-law Keri have been a part of the Commonwealth community for a combined tenure of 38 years. Karen manages our New Accounts team in Waltham, Brian is a relationship manager on our Annuity Research team, and Keri is a manager on our Web Services & Usability team. Collectively and individually, they exemplify the Commonwealth spirit in all that they do.
Congrats to you all for organizing such a great event and raising those funds in your father’s memory!
